biblionix

The library's catalog, both in the physical facility and on the Internet, is provided by a company called Biblionix, which updates the software periodically to upgrade the user experience. While Biblionix provides the shell and search software, it also allocates space for other online services. Those include:

overdrive

Overdrive is the name of the software that a number of libraries in Texas and beyond have devised and now offer to allow patrons find, borrow and download e-books. A link at the library website allows patrons to access Overdrive and its offerings, and another link can take the visitor to videos that explain how to use Overdrive with various portable devices. Modern tablets and smart phones can generally access Overdrive books by downloading an app. That link is also on our website.

Overdrive is not, however, the only way to download e-books. The Gutenberg Project, with a link at our website, allows users to access thousands of books that are no longer protected by U.S. copyright law. These are generally older books, some of which may no longer be in print.

Audiobooks can also be downloaded via the Overdrive catalog. Instructions are likewise linked at the website.

Along with Overdrive, the Biblionix software allows the library staff to provide a world of material that's linked through our databases. Some databases are educational in nature. Others are for entertainment. And others are gateways to Internet portals where hundreds of possibilities for educational, research and entertainment reside. Tools are included to help users find jobs, hone their professional and technical skills and do research to complete or improve their projects.
