The Wimberley Village Library is pleased to announce the Ready to Read @ Your Library program. The library is participating in early literacy initiatives sponsored by the Central Texas Library System. The program will emphasize pre-reading skills though a series of six weeks presentations during the regularly scheduled Toddler and Story Times. The series is designed to be fun and to help give youngsters an early start to a lifetime of literacy.
Ready to Read @ Your Library
Current research on early literacy and brain development indicates that it is never too early to prepare children for success as readers. This program is designed to help parents of newborns, toddlers and preschoolers understand the importance of their critical role as their children's first teacher.
Parents and children may attend as many sessions as they choose and there is no sign up. Brochures and hand-out will be available after every program. The first program will begin on January 18th at 10:30 am in the children's room.
The program schedule is as follows:
- Print Motivation: January 22nd at 10:30
- Print Awareness: January 25th and January 29th at 10:30
- Letter Knowledge: February 1st and February 5th at 10:30 am
- Vocabulary: February 8th and February 12th at 10:30 am
- Narrative Skills: February 19th at 10:30 am
- Phonological Awareness: February 22nd and February 26th at 10:30 am
The intent of these partnerships and programs is to firmly establish public libraries as a partner in the educational continuum, and to validate our contributions by linking our activities to relevant research and evaluation. Public librarians must agree to partner with the young child's most important teachers - parents and caregivers - and to leverage our work in influencing a child's development.
